Future of Penticton Arenas

Penticton's arenas are operating at or near capacity and four are needed to sustain current levels of service and programs. With Memorial and McLaren Arenas in need of significant investment, Penticton must decide how to meet its arena needs for the future. The Arena Task Force was created to explore the options and prepare a recommendation for Council. Information about the options and costs for McLaren, Memorial and a New Multi Use Arena is now available and the Task Force wants to hear from the community. Residents are asked to register and complete this feedback form prior to July 8. Timing is tight as the Task Force is working towards a deadline for a grant application that could secure up to $6 million towards the future of Penticton’s arenas. The City has developed an early concept of what Memorial Arena could become if it was repurposed as a fieldhouse capable of supporting lacrosse, tennis, pickleball, roller derby and more. The concept was developed with the input of user groups and the community at workshops in January and shared at two drop-in sessions on May 29 and 30. The drawings are now available on shapeyourcitypenticton.ca for you to view and share your feedback. Feedback will be collected until June15. Some of the key changes to be aware of include:

• the change rooms and Zamboni room will be removed and replaced with entrances to the building
• the bleachers will be removed to dramatically expand the court surface to accommodate a variety of sports and court configurations
• the track on the second level will remain for walking and viewing
• a multi-use surface will be installed and will feature an LED lighting system to mark the lines of the court for the sport being played (see the video)
