Leash Optional Pilot Project

Feedback is now closed.

Council supported three permanent leash-optional spaces, one needing further investigation and one to be removed:

Supported:

• Skaha Park Main - 2661 Parkview Street
• Skaha Park East - 3895 Lakeside Road
• Water Treatment Plant Entrance - 1900 Penticton Ave

Investigating:

• Riverside Park - 187 Riverside Drive
• Note: Council is considering fencing this area, staff will be reporting back to Council with the cost at a later date.

Dogs must be on-leash:

• Okanagan Lake Park - 45 Lakeshore Drive E
• Note: the fenced off-leash dog park at this location remains and will be extended by 30m.

Penticton will soon have more Fido-friendly areas as part of a pilot program for leash-optional spaces beginning Friday, March 1. Designated areas within select parks will offer the opportunity for off-leash use while asking dog walkers and park users to share their feedback throughout the pilot’s run to help determine whether these leash-optional locations become permanent.

Five parks have been identified for the six-month trial period:

• Riverside Park - 187 Riverside Drive
• Okanagan Lake Park - 45 Lakeshore Drive E
• Skaha Park Main - 2661 Parkview Street
• Skaha Park East - 3895 Lakeside Road
• Water Treatment Plant Entrance - 1900 Penticton Ave
