It's time to 'snap your city' Penticton! Hobby photographers are invited to submit their best snapshots of Penticton for use on the City’s new website as well as in reports, social media, and other promotions. The City is looking for photos that celebrate life in Penticton in the following five categories: Recreation and Sports, Arts, Culture and Events, Amenities and Places, Nature and Parks and Innovation and Economy.
At the end of the submission period, the City will shortlist the photos. All photos shortlisted are candidates to be used on the site or in City publications. Residents will be invited to vote for their favorites from Feb. 15 to Mar. 1. The photographer of the photo that receives the most votes in each of the categories will receive a one-month family pass to the Community Centre (fitness centre and pool). In exchange for the use of photos the City will provide a photo credit for all feature photos used on the main page(s) of the website.

Vote for your favorite Nature and Parks photo!
about 5 years agoThank you to everyone who contributed a photo to the contest. We were overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of photos. Over the past few days, City staff have reviewed the photos to create a shortlist. We focused on photos that we think would work well for the feature shots of the web page. There were hundreds of outstanding photos that may not be the right configuration or subject matter for the feature shots but would be perfect elsewhere on the website and in City publications. Please take a look at the shortlist and vote for your favorites. Only registered members are allowed to vote. (This ensures that individuals only vote once.) You can vote for as many photos as you like in each category. The photographer of the photo with the most votes in each category will receive the prize of a one-month family pass to the Community Centre.
NOTE TO ALL PARTICIPANTS: By contributing your photos to the contest, you are giving the City permission to use the photos on the website or in City publications. If you do not give the City permission to use the photo, please contact getconnected@penticton.ca.

Photo Specifications
The City is seeking feature shots to display on the main pages of www.penticton.ca as well as supporting shots to display throughout the site. Photos must meet the following specifications:
- Only digital photos will be accepted. Preferred file formats include .png or .jpeg.
- Feature shots are landscape in orientation and are approximately 1270 x 800 pixels in size.
- Preferred file size is 1 MB for supporting shots and 3 MB for the feature shots. (All shots must be a minimum of 300 DPI.)
- Photographers must have a signed release form for all people identifiable in the photos.
- Photographers should be willing to waive their rights and allow the City the right to scale, crop or alter the color of the image as required.
- Photographers under the age of 18 must have a release signed by a parent or legal guardian to participate.
Sample release forms are available at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.
Tips
- Why are we using www.shapeyourcitypenticton.ca? This application allows for thumbnails to be uploaded and easily viewed. It ensures all photos are appropriate before they are posted. And it includes a voting function that makes it possible to involve the community in selecting the winners.
- Why does it reference 'Ideas'? We adapted the Ideas tool to support the photo contest. When it asks you for your idea and a description, give your photo a name and a location.
- Can I email my photos? A large number of large emails are a problem for our email system. Our preference is to download the shortlisted photos from the website.
- Don't forget to 'activate' your account. Once you register, watch for an email from the system inviting you to activate your account. Your account needs to be activated in order to upload files.
- Keep it nice! Photos that contain objectionable or inappropriate content will be removed at the discretion of the City.
Registration Instructions
- Click Register in the banner on the top right.
- Provide a username, email and create a password. Passwords must be at least 8 characters and contain a combination of numbers and letters with at least one lowercase letter and one uppercase letter.
- Re-enter your password and provide your Postal Code and your Age Range.
- Review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and check the box.
- Click on the Register button.
- Watch for an email in your inbox. Click on the link to activate your account.
