Consultation has concluded
Project update: Coyote Cruises Limited Partnership and the City of Penticton reviewed a proposal for a 5-year License to Use with the committee at their meeting on June 1, 2020. The license-to-use was proposed as an alternative to the original request for a 20-year lease. The Committee unanimously agreed to the recommendation and Council approved the license at their meeting on June 16. The process is now closed. Thanks to everyone who shared their feedback early on.
Coyote Cruises is requesting a 20-year lease in Riverside Park to support their investment in improvements to the inner tube rental and transportation business. The proposed lease incorporates the existing license area and lands on either side totaling .16 hectares within Riverside Park. The City is following the public process outlined in the Park Land Protection and Use Policy to review Coyote Cruises’ request to lease the land. in Riverside Park. To date, it has been brought forward to an open Council meeting and has been shared with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC). The request is now being put forward for discussion with the community. Once the results of the community engagement activities are compiled, proposal and feedback will need to be reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and Council before the City would seek electoral approval for the request.
Proposal features
Some of the key features of the Coyote Cruises vision includes:
renovation of existing building including new electrical and plumbing
increased security around building and area
increased safety from start to finish including the steps to enter and exit the channel
improve landscaping and maintenance for site attractiveness and security
addition of public shade areas and structure
addition of food and beverage facilities, gift shop
upgrade of rental inflatables
offsite parking with shuttle service to starting point
integration of the culture of the Penticton Indian Band in the facility design and channel experience
the K'uL Group has partnered with Diana Sterling (LocoLanding) and Derek George (Boston Pizza) to deliver the new vision
The site will not be fenced and public access to the channel will remain unrestricted.

The City is hosting two open houses to support a public review and discussion of the Coyote Cruises request to lease a portion of Riverside Park. The first open house will be held in the lobby at the Penticton Community Centre between 3 pm and 7 pm on May 22. The second open house will be held at the City’s booth during the Community Market on Saturday, May 25 between 9 am and 12 pm.
“Coyote Cruises is one of the oldest and most iconic tourist attractions in the City and has remained largely unchanged for decades,” says Mike Campol, Director of Projects and Partnerships with the Penticton Indian Band’s K’uL Group. “With our vision, the amenities will be upgraded and the guest experience transformed to celebrate the traditions of the Penticton Indian Band. We are really excited to move this proposal to the public phase where we can discuss our vision with the community in more detail.”
Coyote Cruises is seeking a 20-year lease to secure their investment in the business. Residents will have the opportunity to share their feedback on the proposed vision and lease at the open house or through the City’s online engagement platform www.shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.
“The City is keen to understand what the level of interest is in this proposal and the lease before going any further in the public process,” says Director of Development Services, Anthony Haddad. “We hope that a lot of citizens will come out to learn more about Coyote Cruises vision and share their views.”

Coyote Cruises is a business of the K’ul Group. Their vision is to improve the existing infrastructure and buildings, add a concession and shaded seating area, and integrate the culture of the Penticton Indian Band into discoveries along the channel. The proposed lease incorporates the existing license area and lands on either side totalling .16 hectares within Riverside Park.
“If Council supports moving the request forward in the process, this next step provides an opportunity for Coyote Cruises to test their concept with the community,” says Haddad. “Once they have a final proposal, approval from the Penticton electorate will also be required before the lease can be granted.”
