Consultation has concluded

City removes debris creating a flood hazard on Ellis Creek in May 2018.

The City has developed a draft plan to restore Ellis Creek. Erosion from recent floods has caused boulders and sand to accumulate in different areas along the creek increasing the flood hazard and damaging the fish habitat.

The plan recommends how the material can be redistributed and the banks can be stabilized to restore the natural features of the creek and reduce the flood hazard. The City has completed the technical analysis and is ready to share the findings and the recommended path forward with the people and the businesses that may be affected.

The City is inviting residents and businesses to learn more and share their feedback by November 1. Once the feedback is collected, the City will refine the draft plan and share it with Council for approval in early December.

Once the Master Plan is in place, a detailed design process will be conducted on a reach-by-reach basis to implement the recommendations. The City will collaborate with adjacent landowners to maximize the benefits of the work for all residents.

Have you selected contractors to complete the work?

The City has not selected a contractor to perform the work. We are still at the stage of developing the plan. Once the plan is approved (expected in December), the City will need to determine what funding is available. We will then follow our purchasing policy and process to award the work. The tender will be advertised on our purchasing site.
