Consultation has concluded

The City is starting on the path towards a transportation system that supports all ages, abilities, and modes of transportation while helping meet environmental objectives and using infrastructure wisely. Work is underway on the 2020 Transportation Master Plan which will identify all of the projects needed in the next 5, 10, 15 and 25 years to move Penticton towards the vision for a ‘complete transportation approach’ described in the 2019 Official Community Plan. Watch the Transportation Master Plan video to learn more about this vision and what it means to you.

How do electric bikes/scooters fit into the City's transportation planning? Will there be different considerations provided for these particular modes of transportation?

TO asked over 3 years ago

Thank you for your question. The direction for policy is coming primarily from the Official Community Plan which strongly supports multi-modal transportation and active transportation. E-bikes are considered the same as regular bikes. There is direction to provide more protected cycling routes and secure storage for cyclists. There are no specific policies for e-scooters as of yet but we can relay that feedback to the transportation engineers who are supporting this work.

Resident on Lakeshore and watch the happenings all day along ad I am really surprised no one has been killed!

I could not make the interactive map work properly with my iPad, but I was wondering why a ten old map is being used for this. The area bordered by Yorktown Avenue, Wilson Street, Waterford Avenue and Skaha Lake Road is arguably going to be the most densely populated area in Penticton, and yet has some of the most inadequate sidewalks in town. There are a lot of senior citizens living in this area already, yet two seniors with walkers cannot safely pass each other on this section of Yorkton Avenue. Could the city consider upgrading the sidewalks to what they should have been when all of this construction was being done? Thanks

with the new 180-unit complexes on South Main Street, what provision has there been made to handle the extra trafrfic to and from it? Have you considered putting a light and cross walk at the S.Main and Yorton Street intersection? Have you considered a One-way street for Lee Ave. as it funnels a lot of traffic especially at the far west end of Lee, coming out from the Park , the Lee residents and potential new S.Main 180-unit complex? 2. Also, the concentrated Seniors village (the Springs) and the Regency and Condos could use safe way of crossing over the streets to get to the Park, with a safety crosswalk. Several have told me that crosswalk

There is a noise bylaw that says "no idling motors between the hours of 9 PM and 7 AM", yet I STILL have commercial trucks parked overnight on a residential street and outside my bedroom window with their reefers starting and stopping. Are there any plans to enforce that bylaw? I'm seeing a missed revenue opportunity here.

Any turn from West Bench to highway 97 is quite dangerous at times. Traffic coming into Penticton is always way over the speed limit and leaving Penticton is even worse. Any plans for this area? Why is the speed limit on Main Street never enforced? I travel at 30 km and always, in the way. Coming out of Rona, the view of the oncoming traffic from the bypass is blocked with the cars and trucks parked between Rona and the Storage place.

Will you be building additional EV charging stations throughout the City as part of this plan? The BC government's new Zero-Emissions Vehicle Act will mean more people will be driving electric vehicles in the future. Visitors especially will need access to charging stations. Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback. Your suggestion is consistent with the direction of the Official Community Plan and will be provided to the consultants to consider in preparing their recommendations.

We recently moved to a Penticton & love it here. We need many more left turn signals at major intersections like Duncan to Fairview to name one. Also there are many families & young people walking on the narrow path in front of the airport to go tubing In the channel. There should be cement blocks all along that path to protect pedestrians. You need an easier way to communicate needs then scrolling through the map. Can you ad a suggestions option please. Thank you!

Hi there, I can add your feedback. The advantage of the map is that it generates a list with the latitude and longitude coordinates for each comment. The engineering team can integrate this data into their mapping tools and compare it with the traffic counts they have collected. With over 600 comments so far, it is a much more efficient and effective way to provide the data. We don't mind entering the comments for anyone who has been having a hard time with the tool.
