The City is developing a new Official Community Plan to guide development and change in Penticton for the next twenty years. For the past year and a half, the City has been working with the Official Community Plan Task Force and the community to understand the needs and gather input to shape the plan. Based on this work, the City has prepared draft policies for Housing, Transportation & Infrastructure, Arts, Culture & Heritage, Economy, Environment and Agriculture & Food Systems. These draft policies are now available for review and comment.

    On February 14th, Mayor Jakubeit, City Councillors and City staff asked almost 350 community members, “what do you love about Penticton?” We visited the SOEC walking track, Seniors Drop-in Centre, Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, Community Centre, Memorial Area, Princess Margaret High School and several businesses and associations. People love living in Penticton for a whole range of reasons: the weather, how easy it is to get places, the small-town feel, games and concerts at the SOEC, the farmers market, the natural environment, festivals and events and many more things. The feedback from the Valentine's Day activities is summarized in the picture. We will continue to pose this question over the next few months as well as asking people to look ahead with the questions “what are your hopes for Penticton” and “what are your concerns for Penticton.” These questions will help us create a vision for the Official Community Plan.
